Frequently asked questions
Do you direct bill to insurance?
No, I don’t. You will need to contact your provider to see if Registered Social Workers are partially or fully covered. I will provide you with receipts so that you can be reimbursed.
How do I know if I need therapy?
You might consider therapy if you’re experiencing emotional distress, facing life challenges, struggling with mental health issues, or seeking personal growth and self-improvement. It’s a valuable resource for a wide range of situations.
What can I expect during a therapy session?
During a therapy session, you can expect to have open and confidential conversations with your therapist. You’ll discuss your thoughts, feelings, and concerns, set goals, and work on strategies to address your challenges.
How often should I attend therapy sessions?
The frequency of therapy sessions depends on your needs and goals. Typically, sessions are scheduled weekly or biweekly, but this can be adjusted based on your preferences and progress.
Is therapy effective?
Research consistently shows that therapy is effective in improving mental health, emotional well-being, and overall quality of life. Success in therapy depends on factors like the therapeutic relationship and an individual’s commitment to the process.
What happens in the initial consultation?
On our first meeting, you will tell me about yourself, your history, your current life, and what has brought you to seeking out therapy at this time. We will also discuss your needs and goals for therapy. After our first session, we can decide if it is a good fit for us to continue working together. If is decided that the fit isn’t right (no offense taken), I will refer you to some other clinicians that might be a better fit.
Are the sessions confidential?
The law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and counsellor. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client. However, there are some exceptions required by law to this rule, which are discussed in our Informed Consent.
How long does therapy last?
The duration of therapy varies widely depending on your goals, the nature of your concerns, and the therapeutic approach used. Therapy can be short-term (a few sessions) or long-term (several months or more).
Is therapy only for people with mental health diagnoses?
No, therapy is not limited to those with diagnosable mental health conditions. It’s also suitable for individuals seeking personal growth, self-improvement, or support in navigating life challenges.
Can I stop therapy whenever I want?
Yes, you can stop therapy whenever you choose. Therapy is a voluntary process, and you have the autonomy to decide when to start and stop.
